PORTER Yoshida Kaban calls upon textile innovation studio BYBORRE to create an exclusive bag range celebrating its 85th Anniversary.

Six iconic PORTER bag styles such as the 2-Way Helmet Bag, the 2-Way Waist Bag and the Alica Pack are especially executed with a celebratory knitted textile, playfully juxtaposed against a main construction of PORTER’s original nylon bonding fabric.

Elements such as pockets, panels and shoulder straps feature the bespoke version of BYBORRE’s AO3™ knit type - a 3 layer jersey compiled of a filling yarn which is tightly compacted between a front and back layer that, for this project, was composed of 100% recycled polyester yarns. The result is a surprisingly soft, yet durable textile, specifically engineered to be exposed to the wear and stresses encountered with daily use, simultaneously becoming the perfect graphic surface to boldly celebrate the special project and anniversary.

Creating a textile for the bag segment has been high on the list for us, we have previously done various experiments and tests to create suitable knits for this space. Of course, it was a big honor when PORTER Yoshida Kaban approached us to make a special knit to be featured in their iconic product. Our knit lab engineers chose special Antex Environ yarns to create a tight 100% recycled polyester textile that actually has a robust yet pleasant hand feel which dries fast, holds color over time and doesn’t pill easily. In dialogue with us, the PORTER team did a fantastic job incorporating a design fitting the celebration of its 85th anniversary, which was made suitable as a repeated pattern to minimise excess cut offs. The range of the six bags is set to release this Friday the 15th of January at 12:00 PM (JST) and will be available exclusively via PORTER retail channels as long as stock lasts.
