BYBORRE takes on workwear — new Edition7™ launching end of October 2020

BYBORRE launches Edition7™ showcasing innovations in a collection that includes workwear inspired pieces and the latest textile developments. In this Edition™ a new knit type is introduced: the ‘WAFFLE™’ a single layer, honeycomb like structure that traps air to keep you warm. Using new blends of materials, BYBORRE has expanded the possibilities within their extensive yarn library, allowing for more freedom and functionality. These blends are used in garments that are a homage to the classic silhouettes found in workwear.

BYBORRE unites with Dutch artist Jeroen Erosie to create an artwork that the BYBORRE team translated over all of the textiles used in this collection. The lines and details of the artwork show up in different yarns and structures throughout all the pieces. Tones nod to Erosie’s artwork, combining an industrial feel with a rugged, rustic mood; Tar, Rust, Iron Ore, Copper, Lead, Oily Blue. This collaboration acts as a case study to showcase the potential for artists to make dynamic work using BYBORRE’s open-source Create™ tool, available to any brand or creative keen to make textile development a fundamental step in their creativity. 

Collaboration is central to the BYBORRE process, and can be seen in this Edition™ through the range of merino wool pieces made in partnership with The Woolmark Company, a range of eco nylon textiles made in partnership with Meryl®, and a function-focused partnership with the GORE-TEX brand, whose technology can be found on transformable parkas, trousers and gloves, which can be adapted at a moment’s notice.  

Notable in this collection are new silhouettes such as a bomber, work shirt, and a button-through inspired jacket. These pieces are a nod to classic menswear staples and the clean, quiet formality of workwear. The new styles, and the Edition as a whole, showcase the numerous aesthetics and silhouettes for which BYBORRE’s textiles are suitable, highlighting the variety of options available when using our forward-thinking knits.

KEY INNOVATIONS FOR EDITION7™

BYBORRE’s Editions™ functions as the perfect playground to both experiment and refine material innovations. In this Edition™ BYBORRE touches on workwear, combining the highest quality yarns with durable knit structures, which results in the introduction of knitted textiles in workwear pieces. For Edition 7 a new knit type is introduced called the WAFFLE™, a honeycomb like structure that traps air to keep you warm. With each new Edition™, the BYBORRE label highlights the genuine usability and creative potential of BYBORRE’s textiles commemorating the biggest ideas coming out of the studio.

EXPANDING RANGE OF TEXTILE POSSIBILITIES

As always, the Edition™ consists of staple garments - BYBORRE Fundamentals alongside new BYBORRE Experimentals. A selection of these new styles deviate from the signature, sporty BYBORRE look, and focus instead on classic menswear staples, combining the clean formality of workwear with BYBORRE’s signature details. These Experimental styles showcase the numerous aesthetics and silhouettes for which our fabrications are suitable, highlighting the variety of options available when embracing our textile development ethos.

WAFFLE™ KNIT FOR BASE LAYERS

A new knit type, the WAFFLE™, is introduced with this edition. This is a single layer knit , featuring a dynamic structure . When worn next to skin the honeycomb structure creates air pockets which trap heat, giving the fabric excellent thermal properties. BYBORRE’s desire is always to be “part of something bigger,” so this waffle will be added as an option in our Create™ tool, allowing other brands and collaborators to take this new innovation and twist it into their own style and aesthetic.

CONVERTIBLE STYLES

This collection again features a function-focused range of GORE-TEX pieces, whose INFINIUM fabrics can be found on transformable parkas, trousers and gloves, through which the benefits of adaptable clothing are explored; when extra protection from the elements is required a knit vest can, via zippable compartments, become a hooded, protective jacket at a moment’s notice.
