BYBORRE LAB previews their Edition8™, challenging how raw materials are used for conscious textiles.
Designing for this latest Edition, the BYBORRE team had started questioning the size of the collections (had they become too big?) and more importantly if they were serving BYBORRE’S overall mission. The Label has always been the showcase for the latest textile innovations coming out of the BYBORRE Knit Lab and defines where our head is.
As our team prepared for Edition8™ and were contemplating downsizing, working with fewer, more pure materials, Covid-19 happened. And with it the world came to a halt.
Through a world-wide forced reflection, this time is an amplifier of a much larger problem and we are well aware of the role that fashion, and by extension the textile industry, plays in the effects and challenges that humanity and the environment faces.
We as creators have a responsibility, and this pause in time has reinforced what we had already been questioning.
BYBORRE’s mission is to CREATE CONSCIOUS CREATORS through textiles. The aim of our Label is to promote consciously approaching products, highlighting traceable ingredients, prolonging product’s lifespans, and their post-use impact.
“Conscious Creating” to us also means knowing when we’re doing too much and taking a stand to streamline processes and their outcomes.
BYBORRE’s Edition8 is a compact collection, focused on recyclability and taking a tailored approach to our iconic silhouettes. Each piece in this collection showcases the label’s approach to conscious creating, following the steps of the Textile Development Kit. Through decisions on True Color yarns, recyclability, and tailored patterns, the label’s designers are using the streamlined process that BYBORRE offers to conscious creators worldwide.
BYBORRE presents its latest textile innovation, and provides a virtual preview of the upcoming Edition8™. In this ‘Mono Edition’ the usage of material and the way materials are combined is challenged.
The introduction period is from the 24th of June till the 9th of July 2020. If you are a retailer, brand or member of the press you can book your slot to be virtually introduced to this Edition and its latest textile innovation.

Focused, compact, and pared down to the essentials, BYBORRE wanted to create a collection fit for the times we live in. Using Mono Materials and a tonal colour scheme, the result is elevated through its simplicity. Iconic BYBORRE styles have been streamlined, both in terms of detailing as well as construction, creating pieces that are light and flowing without compromising on what makes them unique.
Additionally, the design team paired signature BYBORRE knit fabrics with a custom woven shirt fabric to explore unexpected textile combinations and highlight how BYBORRE knits work in lighter weight garments.
To further showcase the possible uses of BYBORRE’s textiles they are introducing a completely new silhouette this Edition; their interpretation of a suit. An understated, slightly dressed up, soft tailored jacket and pant set. This tailored set is built to provide the comfort and performance BYBORRE strives for in all of their pieces.
In partnership with The Woolmark Company, BYBORRE has continued their exploration of the possibilities of wool for the hotter months. The unique wool textiles within this collection showcase an exploration of the True Color concept through celebrating the True Color of wool from the coats of different animals. Through dedicated research and development done with The Woolmark Company, the textiles in this collection highlight a new way of working with wool for warmer climates through structure and the blends of yarns.
For this Edition the textile artwork was created in house with the aim to create something that would work well when knit using low contrast yarns of the same tones, allowing the different knit textures to really speak. The graphic is composed of rectangles in varying sizes, which were balanced to work on a garment scale. As this is a collection for the warmer parts of the year the team decided to use no fabrics with fill yarns, which means there is extra focus on knit patterns, knit direction and stitch size.
BYBORRE’s label functions as the perfect playground to both experiment and refine material innovations and showcase them to the world.
With each new Edition, the BYBORRE label highlights the genuine usability and creative potential of BYBORRE’s textiles. The label commemorates the biggest ideas coming out of the studio.
As a showcase of ‘Conscious Creation’, in this Edition BYBORRE challenged themselves to question the use of raw materials and the way these materials are coming together in a garment. A cotton knit for instance is combined with a cotton woven and trimmings, all part of their quest to increase the recyclability of garments further down the line.
Introducing the O2L™ as a BYBORRE textile building block. Comparable in weight to the AO2™, yet different in look, it has a mesh like texture on both sides.
The O2L™ (Open-interlock 2 Layer) is the latest addition to the BYBORRE textile building blocks. Due to the knit technique used, the front and back layers connect and lock into each other to create an open, mesh-like texture on each side, without going all the way through the fabric.
To further explore unexpected textile combinations the team developed a 100% cotton 145gr shirting woven with a Portuguese mill that specializes in shirt fabrics. The fabric presents as white but has a “ripstop” grid of True Color yarn woven into it which gives it a subtle off white hue that breaks the stark whiteness of the material.
